Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace

Client: Large Healthcare Provider

 The Challenge

A major healthcare provider with over 5,000 employees was struggling to address growing concerns around workplace mental health. Stress and burnout were widespread among staff working in high-pressure roles, while middle management lacked the training to identify and address mental health challenges. This led to absenteeism, reduced productivity, and decreased employee satisfaction scores.

The organisation engaged Richard Reid to create and implement a mental health programme tailored to their unique challenges and workforce needs.

 The Solution

Richard worked closely with the provider’s senior leadership and HR team to:

1. Develop a Mental Health Policy

Richard created a comprehensive and actionable mental health policy for the organisation, establishing clear guidelines for leadership, HR, and staff to address mental health issues proactively.

2. Leader Training Sessions

Key managers were trained to recognise early signs of stress or burnout in their teams, have empathetic conversations, and provide support or signpost for professional help.

3. Accessible Mental Health Resources

Richard supported the rollout of accessible resources, such as employee assistance programmes (EAPs), workshops, and peer-based support networks, designed to reduce stigma.

 The Outcome

Within 12 months:

– Improved Employee Perception: In employee surveys, mental health support satisfaction scores rose by 32%.

– Better Productivity: There was a 14% reduction in absenteeism due to stress-related illnesses.
